Got the skunk going
I was getting pretty confident in my crappie finding and catching abilities, then reality set in. I went Tuesday afternoon and this afternoon and caught nary a crappie. We caught fish both days, but not the targetted species. Water temps were 87.6 degrees when we got on the water. Pulling jigs around and over humps very close to creek channels. I drove a long way on a creek channel scanning for fish and didn't mark a single one. I was marking fish around the humps but catching was scarce. All the fish caught today were white bass and 3 ditch pickles. Caught maybe 10 total fish for the evening. We were pulling jigs. I used double 32's, double 16's and a 32 and 16 trying to vary my depth, but to no avail. Marked fish ranged from 6' to 14' deep. With us having no rain in quite a while the lower lake is as clear as I've ever seen it this time of year. I could see the bottom in 5-6 feet when leaving the boat ramp. We did see fish pushing shad up onto a hump and busting them. We tried to get in on some of that action but couldn't keep up with the movement of the shad ball.
Now I've got to learn how to find summer crappie. I have yet to find enough fishable docks on Guntersville to do that on a regular basis without running all over the lake.
Me and Fur Lite are going cat fishing in the morning. I don't like cat fishing but my son wants to give it a go, so that's what we're gonna do.
