I’ve caught a LOT of crappie using the baby shad plastics vertical jigging.
I know a lot of people use them for shooting docks too, but you need a good jig head to hold them tight when using them that way.

How much action does a minnow have while he’s swimming along? Not saying others don’t work but action isn’t always need. In fact I’ve seen times I wouldn’t get bit unless my bait set still for a while under a bobber. Trust me, I’m no expert but I have a wife and two daughters, I know how finicky creatures can be sometimes!!
Keep on keepin on!!!
The real answer is probably because the baby shad was the original. People have been buying them forever and they work. No need to change. The Swim'R might work better in some situations, but realistically, I doubt there's a ton of difference. My philosophy is there are times when the fish want a very slow presentation and almost no movement, and when they're more active they'll bite anything, including the baby shad or a stick with a hook tied on it. But, I'm not the expert than some of these guys are.

They are the best soft plastic in my opinion and make up for 1/2 my fish every year. The other 1/2 fall to marabu jigs.
