    Default Batteries

Anybody here use group 31 batteries that go in big rigs or tractor trailer rigs to troll with.

Yes I do. Deep cycle. Had 3 for 10 years. Love the screw post and special nuts you can get for them.

Not aware of the special nuts. Thinking about heading this way. Cold snap has exposed an issue I didn't know I had.

I use them in my boat. Have used them for many years. I buy them from a battery distributor around Bham. I buy their blems or seconds. I also would like to know about the special nuts for these batteries.

These batteries are used in the rigs to supply the bunkhouse. They use them to run the microwave and TV and stuff.

I have 2 new ones I am putting in my boat this morning. According to one my sons who is a diesel mechanic and of the guys I talk to that sells batteries they are made the same as the deep cycle marine batteries, like you say they run everything in the sleeper of the truck and the price is right.

I own a semi trailer repair shop. We don't work on trucks, but I am around them often. As far as I know, the batteries are NOT deep cycle. I will fully admit though, that I don't know that for 100% certain. I can check Monday and will know for certain.

Truckers leave their trucks idling while using the gadgets, microwaves, TV's, ect in the sleepers on their trucks. That makes me think the batteries are not deep cycle. They leave them running so the alternator will charge the batteries.

According to my sons one who works for a new diesel truck dealership as a mechanic and the other who worked for the same shop up unitl about 3 years ago, the newer trucks don't idle, they actually monitor the voltage on the batteries and crank back up when the batteries get so low and charge so they do cycle pretty deep...some even have a separate small charging motor and generator to charge the batteries rather than run the big trailer truck motor. I thought just like FurFlyin before my boys told me differen last year and I guess the older trucks still do idle, they very seldom work on anything older than a 2010 at the dealership.

Mine are deep cycle. Sometimes when I used to sale battery’s. The third or fourth one . Depending on how many the truck had was a deep cycle.
    Here is the nuts.
