What can be frustrating is to mark bunches of fish on the bridge and can't buy a bite.

Yeah, I grew up fishing Guntersville. I now live much closer to Wheeler. There just aren't the many of the same kinds of bridges on Wheeler. Crappie can be caught other ways on g'ville, but the bridges are a focal point that everyone knows about. They're also good for night fishing and bank fishing because you don't have to move around. Plenty of bait, and fish pass through the channel.

What about like the causeway bridge going into Decatur??i know theres crappie caught there.i caught a few last fall.but theres not people catching limits and fighting and having foot races to get a spot. Lol.im just trying to figure this thing out.

I would think that you could spider rig the channels close to the bridge and catch them also. JMO

Guntersville bridges are so good due to the food around them the shad collect there by the thousands which bring all species of fish some nights or days you have to go through 20 shad and 20 stripe plus a few large mouths to catch those crappie I have been fishing those bridges 20 plus years and always when the bait fish arrive so do the crappie

The shad moves to the shallower water and the crappies follow ( as said )and the bridges are narrow (as said)and funnel back waters from 100-800s +/acres most have 18-25’ Chanel’s under them so they pass through their and also the shad holds their! And the bridges hold heat durning the cold sunny days of winter and warm up the water a degree or two!

Another factor that adds to the fish on the Big G around those bridges is that most of those fish are black crappie and they relate to the bridge structure and the rip rap around them. Since they are a creek channel, school after school of fish move through those causeways. I had one day that I caught 23 fish in 23 casts, missed a fish and then caught my last 7 in the next 7 casts! That one day has brought me back to that causeway for years! Lol There is now a lot of structure on those creek channels, so when they get to that causeway bridge and the bait is so thick they stick around for a bit before moving on.

Never try to fish a Westerly wind in January at night on the 31 causeway. Ask me how I know. I had a 16 lb anchor with 50 ft of rope pull loose one night.
