Laker Tholocco: 5 March 2017
Driving back Sunday after a beautiful weekend fishing in the Central Alabama Crappie Club tournament at Millers Ferry on Saturday, I realized I had time to fish my local lake and still make supper to boot. We had been humbled at Millers Ferry - we caught one nice keeper. We actually gave the fish to a lady fishing at the dock instead of weighing it.
Having plenty of time to reflect on the tournament and what we could have done differently, and learning a little from some of the other anglers, I had the urge to fish!
Put the boat in the water at Fort Rucker at 1545 hours and headed out. Given our location, I hoped to find fish in shallow water around the abundance of flooded timber and lilly pads.
I wasn't to be disappointed. I tied on a 1/16 yellow head with a BG licorice/chartreuse SwimR to my wife's 12' Sam Heaton started dipping around pads and stumps. First dip I was rewarded with a thump. Worked this shallow cove pretty good and managed 10 fish in a short period. Not big by any means but it sure felt good! The best fish of the evening was a nice 11" female (not pictured). Found these fish in 4-6 FOW.
