Default Lewis Smith Lake CRAPPIE HELP!!!!!!!

Heading down from Louisville, Ky to Lewis smith lake to fish for crappie for the first time with some buddies. Gonna put in at the ramp by CULLMAN and Lewis Smith park our first day out on Friday. We'll be throwing jigs. I'm guessing with the water being so clear that lighter colored jigs would be a good start?????? Any info will be appreciated!!!!

You have picked the hardest lake in the state to try and catch crappie. I tried it once and only caught 1 fish.

Lol I fish there regularly and catch between 200 to 300 each year we usually use tuffy minnows or jigs with chartreuse tail and maybe white Don't use shinners so you will probably need to to go to Decatur to get them because no one at the lake has tuffies

I've never fished Smith, like Roger said it has a reputation for being tuff. I would look into some of the other lakes if possible,if not I would go with low-vis line and natural colors like blue ice. If you come to logan Martin , Nelly Henry, wedowee or westpoint I will help you out just pm me.

Agree with Guntersville and/or Wheeler if an option for you, Smith Lake is a beautiful lake but tough for Crappie unless you absolutely know someone willing to share some secrets with you.

Fishing is a privilege...catching is a bonus. Enjoy each precious moment we have to experience our great outdoors!

Don't want to be a party pooper, but Smith is not where you want to try and crappie fish, unless you are extremely familiar with the lake, and then it will be a grind. I live on the lake, and I drive to G'ville, Logan Martin, or Weiss, to crappie fish most of the time. But if you are determined to give it a try, then go up the creeks, and stay off of main lake. There is no cover on the main lake.
