I've learned over the years I find crappie in the same spots summer and winter. If your having problems finding them in the middle of summer, but are catching them in the early part of summer, try putting a couple piles just a little deeper in the same area ( 5-10' deeper). I normally will drop in a line of trash starting in 8-10' then working my way out to the channel. These way I can try all depths from one to the other with very little travel. I'll start shallow then hit all the piles on the way to the channel. Some where in that stretch I'll get them in the cross hairs and watch out. I haven't even fished any of mine this fall/winter, I've been on crappie on some deep ledges and can't seem to leave them alone, having to much fun on my ultra light tackle
    Good luck with everything.

I appreciate the help cowboy. Thinking I may aim for the older creek channels in some of the wider creeks and maybe span them out about every 100 yards or so, that way I can use your approach and not have to travel so far. I just didn't want to put them too deep. Seems the channels are anywhere from 28-45 ft deep. Thanks again and Happy New Year!
