Back to Barron Fork for a few hours this morning. Caught 15 or 20 Crappie on a small spinner with a white twister tail. The area has a dozen or so stumps in about three feet of water. Each time the spinner would hit a stump I’d pick up a Crappie. Once again about half over 10 inches, half were short fish.
I went back to the Gill beds, picked up a limit. Continued to catch gills and the occasional bass for and hour of so. Home by 9:30AM. Fun morning.

That there looks like fun
Every day is a holiday and every meal is a picnic.
great pics
Nice looking mess of gills.
The love for fishing is one of the best gifts you can pass along
Biggest bunch of longear sunfish and the best size I have seen in awhile!!! They take over a bluegill bed once the Bluegills are spawned out and set up shop for themselves to spawn!Looks like there were still a few bluegills left too !My friend and Ihave been getting some big gills in white springs swamp on the refuge the last week or so .We catch a few crappie in there once in awhile but never in big numbers .
Yep unusual for them to be 8 and 9 inches. I've often caught many small ones, but never a cool full large enough to eat.
I haven't been into the White Springs area in a couple years, but always seem to get a few Black Crappie in there. Great area, just a long paddle for me.
We have never caught a White crappie out of the area ,always the black ones .They have such a dark coloring i guess due to all the vegitaton they are in. I heard that about a long paddle, it takes us 30 min going in and 20 coming out with our 40 thrust which tells you how fast the water is running out of the canal!! Too bad they will not open the gate during the day , you could drive all the way down to the levy dam and put in there. I heard again a bunch started going out there and trashing the place in cars and trucks so the rangers keep it closed. It was a popular birding road /trail at one time. What I wouldnt give for a key HA
The dark coloring is actually caused by the clear, shallow water.
I like the area in July and Aug because the vegetation in the channel gets so thick that I have the place to myself. I'm willing to paddle to where the channel opens up and it gets to hard for most trolling motors.
Where is Barron Fork? Nice catch and pretty place.
