I shoot docks on Lake Guntersville so I can't say about lakes in the middle of the state. If you decide to head this way I will be happy to offer any help that I can.

Are most of the docks you shoot up there in pretty shallow water?

On average the docks I shoot are in 8 to 12' of water. But there are plenty of docks shallower.

I haven't been shooting docks but a few months and I've found the ones I catch a lot of fish off of are generally in 20-30 foot of water any shallower than 10 I might as well not fish them

On the main river there are some deep water docks. I do pretty good on docks that are at the 10' and deeper mark that are close to deep water access.

The depth of the lake has a lot to do with which docks are best. On the Coosa river Logan martin neely henry a 20ft. Dock is hard to find but lake Martin or Harris 20ft is the norm. Most lakes have good docks. What lakes are close to you that will help us help you.

Most of the cops chain is 60-80 miles away. Logan martin is around a 100 miles. Lake tuscaloosa has been my best I've fished for numbers but they aren't the healthiest fish I've ever caught. Smith lake seems to have a bunch of docks but I've never fished it

Coosa not cops. There's the tombigbee and warrior rivers closer than those but not many docks to speak of. I've been thinking about Bankhead lake

I bought the Navionics apps for my phone and tablet, it gives contour, and depth, plus structure, and dock locations and approximate size. I use it allot to find docks with deep water close by, docks close to bends in the main channel of the lake. It has saved me allot of time and gas. If I find they are on dock that have 10' of water I can look at the contour map and see which docks have to hat amount of water under them. Well worth the $10 I paid for it. It uses GPS to locate your position and it uses Google earth to shore the shore and terrain around the lake. Hells me allot when looking for new docks.
