    Default Possession

Coming to Weiss for 4-5 days fishing. All depends on a number of variables on how long we stay. Driving 650 miles from top of Indiana. Am not hell bent on catching 60/day (between my son and I) as cleaning time and amount I would care to take home way less than a daily limit x 4 or so days.
I can not make myself clearer...we are not coming down to fill the freezer. We are coming down to enjoy great fishing, time with my son, and warmer weather.
But....am I only allowed to take one limit home ??? I am not all that concerned with hauling 4 or 5 days limit home (if we fish four or five days), but is it one days limit ???
I could not find the possession rule in Alabama fishing regs in the crappie daily limit paragraph...only on posts when I did a search on this site.
Staying for a number of days...would be nice to at least take two limits home.
I don't think that is unreasonable if fishing for a number of days.
Even if we ate fish every night..we still will have to catch and release 3 out of the four days we fish.

This is not real clear in the book. Best. I can tell you can only have one limit in your possessions. But I won't swear to that. It doesn't say anything about when you are staying for a couple of days. I would probably just keep one limit just to be safe.

AL State reg is very clear: " It is a violation of Alabama law for any person to transport more than one day's creel limit of any species of fish beyond the boundaries of this state." Hope that helps.

That law is enforced with the same regularity as J-Walking. There have been a lotta of fillets that have left Weiss for parts unknown. However, sportsmen should do their best to abide by all game and fish regulations.

Thanks Bob I have trouble finding everything in the book. It's not all on the same page you got to read the hole book.

I found it really odd that it specifically calls out game leaving the state boundaries. And your right, none of those regulations are ever an easy self-evident read!!! I only printed the quote because Weaver was asking for some clarification on the matter. Just in case, don't want to see a fellow sportsman get hammered say like at a traffic stop or something.

seriously doubt someone is gonna check you! If I drove 650 miles and spent my vacation money there I'd bring my daily limits home! I'm sure weiss can handle it, that is if your lucky enough to catch four limits. Just leave your son on one side of the border and bring one limit at a time across the border and hide them in the woods on the other side of the border then go back and get another limit from your son. lol

Man, enjoy yourself and keep all the "right sized " fish you want. I have some fishing buddies that keep everything they can stretch out to nine inches plus big fat swelled up females. I go with at least 10" if they are thick enough but when i get a good mess i release they fat females too. My buddy db actually throws back everything under 10"AND over 13". I doubt you would be checked on the road home.

Weiss Lake has a 10 inch minimum length on crappie. Also I have known for several years about the rule about not taking more than one days catch over the state line. The thing is that I have never heard of a game warden sitting at the state line checking anyone leaving the state. They just do not have the manpower to do such things.
