There are a few campgrounds to choose from if you want to fish Guntersville Lake. There is one at Goosepond Colonly with a ramp right in a good crappie area. There is also one at the Jackson County Park, on Roseberry Creek another good area. South Sauty has one as well. All of these are good areas. As far as a "newbie", I guess you can work the old bent pole method and see where others are fishing. The crappie will spawn somewhere around the end of March to the first couple of weeks of April. Good luck.
