Guys you can't compare all lakes to the 3 Mississippi lakes they are managed for big crappie. Not all lakes are equal the big G and eufuala would be good to manage for big crappie but most of the other lakes just are not going to be like grenada. Weiss already has a 10in size limit and it's no better than any other lake . West point has no size limit and I get some of my biggest crappie there every year. Alabama fish and game knows a lot more than me I'll let them make the rules.
Are they really that many people catching limits on a regular basis. Where I fish people hardly ever catch the limit.
Probably not. I have caught a limilt once, but I don't keep any fish under 10"s. There are people who will keep any size to get a limit, catch a limit then take them home and come back and try for a second limit. I have also seen people cast netting them and dropping all the crappie regardless of size in a bucket.
I've limited out three times in a lifetime..... Plenty of quality fish, but not trophy fish.
I think the state needs to limit BamaS to fishing only twice a week.

Arkansas raised the limited from 20 to 30 for a big part of the state this year, including Nimrod. I wouldn't put Nimrod in with any trophy crappie lake. Numbers yes, size no.

I know we would all like to see our lakes and rivers be able to produce the giant crappie that are caught in Mississippi but I don't think it will ever happen. The lakes in Mississippi are unique in the way they are situated and managed. They are mostly surrounded by unimproved land and we just don't have much of that around here. I have been to Mississippi many times and crappie fished but I can truthfully tell you I have only brought 1 crappie home from there which I had mounted. I personally have caught many limits of crappie from Alabama waters but they were not the size that they have in Miss. Even when catching a limit I don't usually keep but just a few at a time. I would like to see the state limit on crappie raised to a 10 inch minimum length. I think that would help as much as anything around our area. As far as the creel limit it would not bother me if it were reduced to 20 or 25 per person. The only problem I think with changing anything is the fact that we do not have enough enforcement of the laws we have so I see no benefits of changing anything if you cannot enforce it. There, you have my opinion of this just in case anyone was wondering. Hope everyone has a wonderful and safe year in their crappie fishing adventures.
