OUCH!!! Ticked off pier owner......

I deal with this a lot. Fishing Smith at night, you win some you lose some. I take into consideration that people pay a lot of money for the submersible lights and lots of them leave stuff on their docs, floats,rods,nets,ect.....
If they don't want me to fish it, I move on. I usually try to spark up conversation and just let them know I'm trying to catch mama some supper....lol. Most are really friendly and will come down and visit once they know its you. Others will turn the light off when they see you pull up. I've heard stories of warning shots across the bow. I always try to be respectable.

Good point, we have about 80 grand in my pier,lights and structure around it. It adds up in a hurry.

You did the right thing . But it would be nice to put people like that in there place.

If you fish docks you will run into this, Have been cussed, yelled at, rocks thrown at, even sprayed with a water hose. One guy had motion sensors set up and when you got close to his pier sprinklers would come on, marine police made him take them down. If some one is fishing their dock, I fish elsewhere, if they come out to fish while i'm there, I leave. If they start cussin and fussin, I show them some slabs out of the livewell I just caught off their pier, but I still leave, not worth a confrontation. but I still go back when ever I want.
If someone comes out and starts talking nice I ALWAYS offer them some fish, This seems to make you welcome back 100% of the time. But always remember, they is gonna be butt holes EVERYWHERE you go.

You did the correct thing and better for it.

Thanks to the voters that voted and passed the hunting and fishing amendment on Nov 4. which gives protection to the hunters and fishermen(and ladies) it is now illegal to harass or otherwise impede a person hunting or fishing legally.Also I was told by a conservation officer that the people own the land but the water is a public resource which is owned by the citizens of the state.

You did right Bama, i often talk to folks fishing our lights all have been very nice asking if i mind and i don,t heck i fish other peoples lights .The water at martin below 490 is for anyone wish you good fishing.

we have a city owned lake here that has million dollar homes on it and you cant fish within I think it is 100 feet of their docks or shoreline., some dont care, some do. Depends are where you are as to what the laws are.

OK now for the reverse of this. IF you are the first person to arrive at a bridge on the bank to fish and have been fishing at least 30 mins by yourself or with a friend and a boat comes up and pulls right in front of where you are fishing and ties up ,what is the rule, or what do you do.??? My contention is that you should respect the person that beat you to the fishing area on the bank or not and either tie up so they can still fish the spot or go to another area .If i am in a boat I will not get in the way of a bank fisherman if hes already there. .I also run into the same problem fishing below gville dam. I will sometimes get to a place in the dark and fish till the morning. I have had boats come and anchor between me on the bank and to where i am casting my minnow.If when i get there and a boat is already there I DO not fish anywhere near him but move to another place i can watch them and wait for them to leave.It aint been pretty at times when i have been the first one there and they run in between me.I have been told the standard I dont own the river comment numerous times.

As a pier, lakefront property owner let me say that when someone fishes my dock / condos that I have put there it irritates me BUT I try to remember to thank the good lord for how he has blessed me and allowed me to temporarily posses what is infinitely His.
