Default First Night Trip question about the fish we caught.

Got after them last night for first time this year didn't catch many but the ones we caught were good size. Caught 4 crappie all of them was over 3 over 13" and one over 14". What I thought was odd was we caught them in 30 fow 25' deep. All were females and still had eggs in them which I thought was odd also. Does that seem odd to any of you.

A lot of lakes around here have reports of the same thing happening. Likely weather related. With the long cold Winter, then the yo-yoing temps, then the lake raising rains coming right when things were set to start ... they seem to have pulled off & went deep in a lot of cases. Whether they'll keep trying, if things warm up & stabilize, or simply reabsorb the eggs & try again next year is anybody's guess.

I caught some fish that I though were deep on Guntersville on the 3d and the females still had eggs and looked like they were going to spawn yet.

Some crappie will actually spawn in 20+ feet of water...

We have a lake up here that has an average depth of about 20 ft. Very common to see them spawn on flooded timber 8-10 ft down
