The breakdown after cleaning 'em.....14 of the 17 were whites and 13 of those had eggs with some ready to pop. Of the 3 blacks, one was the blackest crappie I have ever seen. It was just coal black all over. One of the other 2 blacks had eggs.
I saw fish splashing quite often at the very edge of the bank in places that were impossible to fish due to overhanging limbs all the way down to a foot or less above the water. I saw 1 fish come out of the water under the limbs and it looked like a white crappie. The water is about a foot deep there. I believe what I saw was the actual spawning up under the limbs where Herons and other vermin can't get to the beds.
And the BEST part of the trip was when the Bald Eagle came in about 40 yards from me, dove down to the surface twice and got a fish on the 2nd try. It was AWESOME to behold!
