    Default Guntersville

I am somewhat of a newbie to crappie fishing Lake Guntersville. Here are a couple of pictures from the last couple of years. I have had a lot of success every time I have crappie fished at Guntersville but this year seems to be different. My buddies and I have only been catching 7-8 per trip when this time last year (and even earlier) we were limiting out every day (even when the water temp was around 48 degrees). My buddy got checked by the game warden (GW) with 7 fish and the GW said that he hasn’t checked anyone that has limited out, the closest he has seen is a guy with 25 fish… So what is up with Guntersville this year? Temperature, water level, fished out…?

Fished out? Guntersville? Not hardly. I think the issue this year is pretty clearly the weather. Between that, and what seems like lower than usual water levels, I'd say crappie are just going to be late getting out of the gate this year. Once actual spring weather gets here and the water hits a true 60 degrees (not just for the temp, but an indication the weather has somewhat stabilized where it should be) you'll be seeing limits just as always.

I'm glad to hear that, I'm making my first trip there. We will be arriving this Wednesday and staying through Saturday.

The weather has been pretty darn bad this year and inconsistent. Hopefully, that will all change here real soon.

I just bit the bullet and hired a guide for the first day of my trip next week. He said he has been doing good. We shall see.

Whitetail: Dad and I will be fishing Saturday and Sunday. I'm sure you will have them pinpointed by then and will have to put us on the fish. ;-)

Castle: I have heard that Jason Tucker is a good guide. I don't know him and have never used him but a couple of guys that I work with that have used him and had a good experience. Good Luck! Let us know how you do.
