    Default Mobile River

Went Saturday with my wife north of I-65 and caught a few in the high water. Water temp was 70 and the ones we caught were shallow on grass and the males were black. My wife landed a spoonbill catfish 10-15 lbs. on a jig pole and she had a blast. Maybe the rain will hold off this week and the river fall, should be really good if it does.

Good to hear. I went for a while Friday and caught 12 nice ones, but the water was muddy and high (out in the swamp). It's falling now and should be back in the banks by mid week and begin to clear up. All I caught was shallow and black as smut. Water temp is right, all we need is no more floods and a little lower water levels and it should be some great fishing for a few weeks. How they can see a jig in this muddy water is beyond me, but they can.

Beatlespin, what color did you catch them on ? I tried dark colors but caught them all on blue and white.

Black and chartreuse, that has become my go to color. I catch more on it than any other color. If the water is real clear I'll go to yellow or white with chartreuse and sometimes pink. I have gotten to where I want chartreuse and another color most of the time, but I never use all chartreuse. But next week, if the water clears and the temp stays up at 70, it won't make any difference, they will bite almost any color.

Usafret, we are as far south as you can go in Al without fishing in the Gulf, Mobile Al. I am looking forward to coming your way in late April to Guntersville for a bass fishing trip with my son but I may be tossing a crappie jig along with his bass bait.
