Fished the warrior from Franklin Ferry today from 9am-2pm. Didn't pay attention to water temp when I arrived, but it was 58 when I left. Water clarity was around 3'. Did not catch a fish. New to crappie fishing. I could find what I thought were crappie but could only get nibbles. Was fishing in 15-32' deep water. Fish seemed to be suspended between 12-15' deep. Anyone give me some advice on what I might could try or use, or do differently. I was using 1/16 jigs with baby shad. And tried a horse head spinner. I got a few tugs on the jig but could not hook up for some reason. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. This would be the third week in a row crappie fishing without a catching anything.

We had a tuff day on Martin today. We marked fish and ended up with seven only. Mite have just been a bad day.

You may need to try fishing shallower. Have heard reports of folks catching fish as shallow as 3 feet already. As cray stated I would also try minnows, I never go without them.

Would try minnows, but there is nowhere from home to the launch to buy them.

The closest would be g's just really hate their launch. Too rough.

It sounds to me like you were on some crappie, just that they were being finicky with the bite. I have that happen a lot this time of the year when the water temp isn't too warm yet. Often crappie will suck your jig in and spit it out in the same breath, and it feels just like a tap on the line. One technique i learned when casting and retrieving jigs is to let the jig fall after you feel the initial tap. Just completely stop reeling for a couple seconds. often when I lift the tip of the rod after letting the jig fall like that, there will be a fish on. Also, it might help you to get some high visability line, and watch it for any jump, twitch, slack, or anything like that and set the hook on any unexpected movement of your line. Just my two cents there

I've been having some success, 8-10 per trip, fishing in large tops in creeks in 12-15 FOW with jigs and minnows around 4 feet deep. Crappie fishing is extremely tough here sometimes. Black and yellow or black and chartreuse jigs have been my weapon of choice when they won't hit minnows. I must say though, if you can find the stacks of fish that you think are crappie at those depths, take some minnows and tightline about 4 rods at varying depths around them. It's my belief that if you can find those stacks of them (I can't...) that you can usually catch at least a few if you put minnows in front of their faces. Hope I've helped. I'm going tomorrow and I'll post a report.
