Default Wheeer - Pair of American Bald Eagles

Saw an eagle catch and devour a coot this afternoon at the Wheeler Observatory. Dined for almost an hour on the ground and then flew up in a pine tree with it's mate.
Plenty of Sandhill Cranes and several Whooping Cranes and 1 juvenile (orange colored).
No fishermen spotted today from Hwy 67 on Flint Creek.
Itching to have a fresh crappie fry!!!

I have seen a pair fishing the north Salty area and it amazes me every time I see one.Just glad we is a nation didn't kill them off with pesticides in illegal hunting

I have seen some around north only on a few occasions and seen one at Rosebury last year one time. I have watching some on crow creek for several years now. They use to have a nest in a pine tree that looked as big as a car but the tornados and storms took it out.

There are a few that always seem to be around when I fish the area across from Waterfront on Guntersville. One day in particular last spring, I fished over there from daylight to dusk and they stuck around pretty close the entire day. Very beautiful creatures to be sure.

I've only seen those particular eagles snag fish out of the water like an Osprey though. I've always kinda wondered if they grab those coots from time to time.

Also, I noticed those big groups of large birds standing in the edge of the water when I was driving down 67 yesterday, but I had no idea what they were.

After looking at some pictures, it looks like they were Sandhill Cranes. Kinda wish I had taken the time to stop and take a picture now, since this was my first time seeing them in the wild.

coots are supposedly the majority of an eagles diet. I too see them catching fish more than ducks and they are everywhere I fish including the Elk River near Elkton Tn. The pair at North Sauty have offspring that I see quite often , usually nearby the mature birds and theres been one fishing the stumps at the Decatur causeway a lot lately.
