    Cool Flint River Kayak Report

Fished from Hwy 72 to Little Cove, could have caught as many bream as I wanted with a cork and crickets. Only problem was I didn't have a cork and crickets. Me and 4 other guys threw worms, torpedos, spinnerbaits and beetle spins. One guy hooked into a nice Smallmouth that was 3-4 lbs and later another that was a pound or so. The beetle spin was the ticket for bream and small bass. Overall this was an interesting experience and I hope to do another stretch sometime soon and see if we can lock in on some more smallmouth.

Good report....was the water level up and was it running good? I have never been on the Flint River, but have been wanting to. How long does it take to go from 72 to Little Cove?

It was up to a good level, didn't have to drag the boats at all or get out though we did for rest or fishing the swift water from the bank. It took us about 6+ hours but you could have done it in 2.5-3 hours if you didn't stop to fish.

The river was about 8ft at Brownsboro with a flow of .312 and about 4.3 at Chase with a flow of .429 and at this level we could float every bit of the river between 72 and little cove.

    Awesome report! Very nice smallie.

I've been scouting this river from my couch, and it sounds like some of the better fishing is south of Old Big Cove Rd. Check out this google map of put in and take out spots https://maps.google.com/maps/ms?msid=216407643009612176553.0004ac3613dadbf4e117 3&msa=0&ll=34.713396,-86.464462&spn=0.39623,0.727158

I may try it out this weekend. Still trying to figure out the logistics of kayak drop off and pick up by myself.

I can fix the logistics part, have the wife drop you off and pick you up lol. I would be willing to go with you but I'm busy this weekend. I think NACK will shuttle you or maybe Hampton Cove Kayak Rental might. Maybe someone will chime in that also wants to try it out this weekend and you can coordinate. Thanks for that link, that is a great resource and I'll definitely be adding it to my site and sharing it with my buddies.

I fish the area around Hobbs Island Road for Crappie with some success, any deep holes that look good for Crappie up river?

Ditch I didn't see anything that was very deep. All of it seemed to be 4 ft or less and much of it was 2 ft or less.
