    Default Bankhead "The Warrior"

Am I the only one seeing number and size decline? I went Wednesday evening and only caught 4. I figured with water temps in the mid 60s and the big front coming would make for the best fishing of the year. Wrong. 1 female was still full of eggs and another small one was nearly empty. Is the spawn playing out, peaking, or am I just no good at fishing?

Sjprkr1, I'm from Hueytown so I fish Bankhead two or three times a week and up until last weekend have been catching large numbers of crappie up river above Howtons since January . Things have really slowed down up river, so got a chance to go this morn & launched at smith's camp fished in white oak from daylight till 11:00am caught 26 keeper's .. Caught them on blk\blu body with chart tail using a 1/16 oz jig head, fish were holding shallow close to cover, weeds Name: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1365727969.558098.jpg

Thanks for the input linestretcher. Nice catch too. I live in Sylvan Springs so it's a short trip for me too. I think I need to start trying around Smith's or Quinn's. I've been launching from Copeland Ferry.

The first one is Friday(19) and the second is Saturday(13) from White Oak. We also boated a 4 + lb spot that we let go. It looked like it swallowed a softball! We tried Little Shoal Creek and even went all the way to Yellow Creek didn't have any luck at either. More good news is we never even had to measure a crappie. All of 'em were solid keepers.

I made it back to Copeland Ferry today. Kept 8 with a few nice slabs mixed in. They were very scattered. Only 1 or 2 per 'top. They wanted the jig to be barely moving. Water temp there was still only 63 from the rain I suppose. I'll take 'em! The big one was almost 2 lbs and over 14".

My father in law fishes out of Howtons and has had real slow fishing this spring. He has caught a bunch of small bass but not many slab crappie.
