I think the only way that anything will be done is when there is a negative economic impact that can be tied into the spraying. Or (God forbid) someone gets sick and dies from it. I know of 2 people that were told "dont eat any fish from Eufaula" by a conservation officer.
They are also trying to implement changes to the regulations on the landowners who's property is lakefront.
It is truly amazing how many people are so smart they are dumb. No matter what your eyes see happening it is not really happening because the book says it can't or won't. I was never a big Eufaula fisher untill about 10 years ago and I really started learning the lake and enjoying fishing it. I just hope it is not totally ruined before they leave it alone and let the lake recover.
Foul hook, their was a good amount of hydrilla scatterd about the lake untill about 2 years ago I had a spot I caght fish every trip, till the hydrilla was gone. Now nothing in 2 yearsfrom that spot. They are spraying all the vegitation growing along the banks. They killed everything within 20 yards or so of the water around the rip rap at lakepoint last year.
I don' know the answer but I , along with others, see the problem........

Also what about the ducks and other species that feed on aquatic growth, how will this effect them?

That is an excellent point Blackhawk. In fact, there are laws protecting bald eagles which live in the area where spraying is done at Guntersville Lake. And, laws protecting waterfowl. I really think if it went to a court case and somebody had the time and money to take it all the way to the Supreme Court, it would get pretty wild. Not a big fan of a lot of what PETA does, but they would have a field day with this. You get a lot of bull from both sides on what the poison does, but the fact is - it kills. And, even the studies at Auburn prove that bass leave immediately out of the areas that are sprayed. Kind of tells you something there, too.

Just saw this article on the weed control on Eufaula and other lakes.

I started fishing Eufaula over 40 years ago. However, I stopped fishing there back in the 80's when Atlanta 'accidently' dumped 1+ million gallons of raw sewage into the river several times. I mostly fished Oconee, which was fairly new then, and Sinclair after that and caught lots of fish but started back fishing Eufaula 5 or 6 years ago. I've always enjoyed fishing Eufaula and know it from end to end but thanks to the Corps, DNR or whoever I have no intention of ever putting my boat in there again. No more of my dollars in Eufaula's economy.

Perhaps someone can at least tell us fishermen what the bass/crappie fry that always hang around the weed beds for cover every April are supposed to do now.

I got some info this week that the EPA was at Eufaula testing the water. Seems that some people have been getting sick after trips to the lake and a friend told me they were going to test the water up there and possibly close the lake.
I am not sure how accurate this is but I have heard a lot of bad things lately.
    Anyone else hearing anything?
