Have you tried the Clay County public lakes?

Clay County Public Fishing Lake | Outdoor Alabama

Unrelated, but my dad used to take my brother and I to fish hatchet creek in Clay County for good success back in the early 80s. I've read recently the fishing is no longer very good.
