Thread: Making your own pillheads

Good idea, I've got the Do-it Aspirin Head mold, but it bottoms out at 1/16, & has the barb collar. Got me wondering too, about flattening a small tube jig head horizontally instead of vertically like the ball head?

I like the idea but my lead free stuff won't smash like that. I have just thought about using a sanding wheel on my dremel to flatten a spot big enough to put on gem eyes. Might have to look into those aspirin ones 1aB.

I've made 1000's of aspirin head jigs without ever purchasing an aspirin head mold. Before painting, I simply hold the jig on top of my bench vise and tap with a hammer. The result is a jig with a flat on both sides of the head where you can apply adhesive eyes. I started doing this when I couldn't find a mold for the size I wanted.

I will have to try to give that a try with the pliars....

Learned that when I bought 2000 1/16 oz heads from that guy on ebay and all had loose heads. So much so every one had to have a big flat spot on each side until I sold all the heads I bought from him.

Not to mention I had to buy some pliers that had no teeth so they wouldn't get all scuffed up.

You are absolutely right Skip.You have to have one with no teeth.Actually I need to get a pliers with a bigger handle.The 4 3/4 inch pliers i have is hard on my hands after I do a couple hunred.I do like the results though.

I have been making these for awhile. 1/8 oz. flattened .

i have made asprin heads for year with a split shot . just place a split shot on the hook and squeeze. you can get split shot in just about any size you would like. so you can have your on special heads. we used to make what we called hairless jigs with them. just tied a very small pinch of kip tail on the hook and squeeze the split shot on the hook. they worked great.
