    Default Battery Recommendations

I tried to search through the old threads but I need to buy new batteries for my G3 PF 175 with a 40hp Yamaha. Currently have Deka group dual cranking trolling group27 in it.
It has been several years since they saw much service. What is the recommended setup? Currently just running 2 HB DI units and an older 12v trolling motor.
Looks like these Walmart everstart are $99 Robot or human?
is there an advantage to going with another brand? Interstate dealer near me has group 27 for $182.
    Thoughts?
    Thanks

I run 3 Everstarts, and have for decades. Don't get to go as often as in years past, but even back then I got 3-5yrs of use out of them.

    90hp Merc has a Group 24 (bought 2019)
    TM has a Group 27 (bought 2025)
    Electronics has a Group 24 (bought 2024)

Previous TM & Elec's batteries were likely bought in 2019 or possibly before then, and replaced in years listed.

And up until recently, the batteries were being charged by a non-digital charger. I'm hoping that with my new NOCO digital charger they'll last longer.

With Walmarts pretty much "everywhere", I don't have to worry about having one die on me and shorten or ruin a trip out of town or out of state.

Are these the max version or regular lead acid deepcycle?

Currently I'm using the regular Everstart Marine batteries, but I've had Maxx's in the past. I got them back then because of the longer warranty. They lasted beyond that warranty, but so did the regular Everstarts, so when I replaced the Maxx's I went with the cheaper regular ones.
I think the warranties have changed in the last few years, so it's best to check with the store as to what the current warranty length is for whichever battery you're looking at.

For what it's worth ... my Group24 from 2019 is a Johnson Controls battery. The other two do not state the manufacturer on their labels, so they could be from Clarios, Exide, or East Penn. Clarios is the former Johnson Controls, and took over in 2019.

The only lead acid batteries I install in my boats or my costumers boat are Odyssey Extreme Marine batteries. I buy them from Batterymart.com. A Odyssey consistently gives 10+ years of service. I use 2 PC925's for 24V TM power in my 184DC Champion and VL100 Blazer CC, both have a PC1500 Marine Cranking battery. 925's = 925 amps for 5 seconds 1500's = 1500 amps for 5 seconds. they can be mounted upside down if need be. With the cost of retail batteries climbing everyday the cost of Odyssey's gets lower. Lithium's I install IONIC's

evertstart marine battery for cranking is perfect and cost effective for everything else go lithium Ionic's are backed by an 11 year warranty and last a very long time. I can get 2 full days of fishing off of my 60AH for livescope on my 1643 graph and several trips out of 2 12v 100AH ionics on my trolling and accessories.

I've got 3 group 31 Duracell AGM's (from Sam's Club) in the Kenner that are over 10 years old and still starting and trolling (135 Optimax/24V Terrova). 1 is starting/accessories and 2 are dedicated trollers. I haven't load tested them in quite awhile but I used the boat on a trip to High Rock in January and had no issues. I keep the boat charger hooked up at all times when it's parked.
I've got another set of 4 of them in the Epic in Georgia and they are going on 6 years old. The starting battery failed at 5 years so I've replaced it but the trollers are still strong so I'm going to move them to the Kenner soon and upgrade the Epic that gets a lot more use.
In the past, I used the Everstarts on other boats and they typically lasted me 4-5 years. One thing I really like about the AGM's is the terminals hardly ever corrode since they're sealed. I'd suspect Lithium's to be similar and is what I'm going to next.

    Chris
