Default Quick after work trip Quick after work trip [emoji639]/[emoji640]/Quick after work trip [emoji639]/[emoji640]

After all our storms and bad weather around this part of the country today was our first hint of spring. Beautiful and sunny and warm, too good an afternoon to waste. I bagged out of work a few minutes early and ran home and grabbed the ice fishing sled. Drilled the first hole at 4:30. Nothing in that one at 5' deep. Moved over to the edge of a known basin at 9' and hooked right up with a nice 11" crappie. A decent bass to follow

I moved out to 12.5' depth and drilled a few more holes, I think I only fished 5 of 8-9 that I drilled. Fishing got good. The crappie were a little fussy at first coming up to look at my offering, they would stare at it until I ripped it away and then they would hit it aggressively on the drop back down.

I was using a Custom Jigs & Spins Ratso with white/chartreuse plastic until one of the crappie decided to gulp it down. It was getting late and dark, but the bite was on, so I grabbed another rod with a Clam Pinhead on it and kept on catching them until my hands were cold and it was getting much darker out.

All in all it was great short trip. I kept 7-8 but caught 20+ easy. All crappies and the one bass, nobody else showed up to the party.

I'm sure someone will notice, yes that's a rifle on my rod case. I was fishing at a local farm where there is an abundance of coyotes, this time of year they like to shortcut across the frozen pond. I figured I'd bring it in case the opportunity presented itself to thin the herd. There were several other sets of tracks I noticed before I headed onto the ice, hence grabbing the rifle.

Great trip and pictures..... looks and sounds like a wonderful time.
Good call to get out there while you can; end of the season is in sight with the warm temperatures I see on the forecast for next week.
And that picture of the graph looks a lot like the one a couple of weeks ago!
Yes, I was talking to myself; sometimes even I have to ask for expert advice.
