After the rain stopped today I took off to the town pond with hopes of tearing them up today .
I began with a couple 6’6” light rods with 2# p-line and 1/32 jigs . The wind was the lightest I’ve seen it in a while.
After an hour without even a nibble. I decided to go back home and swap tackle . I grabbed my 5’ and my 5’8” Ajing do Major Craft rods with the same 2# P-line . I wanted to compare my casting distances with what I was getting with the longer rods , using 1/32 jigs . I was surprised I could cast almost as far with the shorter rods even though a little headwind had started up .
Still didn’t catch anything.. Until I switched over to one of my micro jigs that use a mini trout magnet for the tail . I almost fell standing up off my fishing stool when I felt the strike .
. LOL !
The micro jig saved the day and kept the skunk away.
I’ve had these results before and don’t know why I keep trying to make the longer rods out perform my shorter rods .
Two ways to increase distance with any rod , smaller diameter line and/or more lure weight .
I’m sure there’s a point where longer rods will outdo the shorter ones. I get longer casts with the drop shot rig and float rigs , but that’s with more weight .
Float n jig is where the longer rods really shine .
But for twitching with lures under a gram I’ll stick with my shorter rods.
