This opinion has nothing to do with FSS. Just old school, experience needed, crappie locating skill.

It seems to me that more and more people are fishing in wood filled coves. I very rarely see crappie fishermen on windblown points, channel bends, drop offs, or any other main lake structure that hold crappie. I wonder why these great places are abandoned . Really, it is ok with me because it leaves me unfished water

On Ross Barnett I observe the Channel fishing guys out in the morning but done inside of an hour. Seems less and less of those guys left. My suspicion is they are not catching. The entire 2025 fishing season they dwindled. Personally I like fishing something I can see (not necessarily the fish) in or under the water. Single pole fishing, concentrating on my Presentation and not much else (till hunger pains hit). With all the Herbicide spraying on The Rez I think the Crappie Anglers left to fish somewhere else period and wrote The Rez off.

I noticed that as well during 2025, and it gives me plenty of room for pulling crankbaits when I fish in the open water drop offs near the river's channel.
If I'm not at work or taking kids to their activities, you might find me on "The Rez" fishing. If not there, I could be in the garage working on my boat.

The North end of The Rez was a massive breeding ground for the Black Crappie population and Lots of White Crappie also but they have wiped out ALL the Spawning cover period. There is no justification for the Extinction Level Spraying at the top of the Rez. The young guy in charge grew up on Pelahatchie Bay and his personal emotions is driving the Herbicide applications. Killing all the different Lilly's above the 43 Bridge will not help the Giant Salvinia problem elsewhere on the Rez. His opinion is kill everything washing down the Pearl into The Rez. Regardless what is said on their YouTube video I have witnessed them spraying Herbicides directly on all the Lilly Pads burning them badly.
