Met up with my fishing buddy at the reservoir between us to fish boat ramps .
Today was spotted bass day.
On my third cast , throwing a white handtied 1/32 jig I hooked up with fun size spotted bass . At the first ramp I caught three spotted bass and a small panfish .
At the second spot , I caught a small redbreast .
The next ramp didn’t produce anything. After twenty five minutes we decided to try and get one more ramp in before time to leave .
We got there and went fishless for almost thirty minutes until my last cast .
A couple were loading their pontoon boat on the trailer and powered it on with the outboard, causing a commotion behind the boat .
From previous experience, sometimes this will be like a dinner bell for the spots .
As soon as he cut his outboard I cast directly behind the boat , made two twitches with a Trout Magnet Cross and was into my fourth spotted bass of the trip .
Rods used were either 6’ or 6’6” UL TFO rods with 1000 size Daiwa reels and 2# Floroclear.
This was my first trip after shifting to 1/32 lead head jigs .
Casting distance was good , even into the wind a few times and I felt an increase in felt sensitivity.
I’ll be tying a few more 1/32 jigs .
Temps were in the upper 60’s and sunny all day .
Edit : forgot to mention. I don’t think the Panfish have moved in close yet . We caught four between us . I enjoyed playing with the green fish![]()

I'll take some of those bass any day. First one sure looks like it's been chowing down with that belly.
