Yup, can't put all your eggs in one basket so to say. Some spawn deep and some shallow as well.

crappie are prolific for several reasons , they multiply quickly and one of the key reasons is the way they spawn .....
many folks don't get it , but to be very sure, one of the factors is who is ready to spawn and who isn't .
as shown below , both fish came from the same exact location and it is quite clear , one of them will spawn sooner than the other .
the spawn goes on for months here in this part of the world , some will go this month and some will go in may ....
4 month spawning periods have a greater chance at producing fry that will survive .

Ours start in December and spawn for 3 months or so depending on how broken up the cold snaps are.

Never thought about that but your right. I'm in Ga. and your in Texas but same thing happen here. Thinking about this and compairing it to facts I know, bream and crappie both have longer spwning cycles than say bass who MOST typicaly spawn over a 2 month period. Have read a lot and seen a lot but have never connected that dot until now. Scott

Might know a spot or 2 but though we are on a pretty good warming trend according to weatherman, water temp was still only 48 today. The big girls are swole but gotta be a little warmer than that. I will say that your correct they feel the moon and will move towards those areas around the moon, just wont stick and stay. See the same thing with shellcracker most years around the full moon in march. Get about 3-4 day's in then they move back out. Scott

pretty sure lot's of the fish going shallow first full moon here are just scouting a bit or something along those lines ....
not totally sure why they do it , some might spawn , but the water temps are still rather low here as well ...![]()
