    Default Snow

It started about 3 am this morning. At 6 am it looks to be about 3/4" of fine stuff here in Horn Lake. Can't really tell if it's still coming down or blowing off the roof. I'm not planning to get outdoors in it.
7 am, 14 degrees, feels like -1, NE 15 mph wind, 22 for the high. Weather guessers say more snow/rain/sleet today.

I saw one of the MDOT cameras around Horn Lake earlier today and thought that it was a lot at the time. It’s been raining down here, and it doesn’t look like our snow and subfreezing temperatures don’t start until tomorrow morning. I’m not looking forward to driving my wife to work on Monday morning (and probably Tuesday morning as well), although I did put a few bags of sand in the bed of my truck help with rear traction so that the rear doesn’t slip so easily, even in 4-Hi or 4-Low. Also, while I don’t have snow tires, at least the BFG KO2 tires on it are 3-peak rated all-weather tires that won’t be as hard as all-season tires in the sub-freezing temps.
If I'm not at work or taking kids to their activities, you might find me on "The Rez" fishing. If not there, I could be in the garage working on my boat.
Thanks canebreaker thanked you for this post

Sunday 5 am, 18 degrees, feels like 2, N 18 mph wind, might see 20 later. Light rain, maybe sleet and snow mixed.
Horn Lake closed Goodman Rd, Hwy 302 from I-55 to Pepperchase. That's the intersection by Popeyes and KFC. That's my shortest route to Baptist Desoto hospital.
I still have power. Debbie is on an oxygen machine and very little back up supply.

    6 am, 12, feels like -2, N 12 mph wind, 21 later.
Haven't heard of any outages in Desoto county, might be line damage to private property. My lines are underground, just have to worry about above ground feeder lines.
Schools closed for the day. Will watch for updates. Senatobia schools closed for the week.
West clinic sent an email, all Memphis locations closed today. I'll be watching for updates and road conditions for my visit tomorrow.
My portable carport needed the canopy replaced. I have a new one in a box. Now the frame is twisted and the canopy is resting on things below it. I'm searching for a new one.

Schools in the Jackson area are closed, although I will say that that the patch of ice at the end of driveway might have been bigger than any other patches of ice that I saw on I-55S to Jackson to the hospital where my wife works. There aren't as many power outages in metro Jackson as there are currently in North Mississippi, although there are some in rural Madison and Hinds counties. I think that my wife should be able to drive herself to work tomorrow, and my kids should be able to go to school tomorrow.

    4 am, 16, feels like 5, SSW 8 mph wind, 32 about 3/4 pm.
Schools will be closed today and tomorrow so far. I feel more days will be added.
Roads are still dangerous to drive. May see more clearing as temps get at and above freezing. Got a few crappie fishermen around Oakland/Oxford that says things are bad. Trees and power lines down, no electric and water. Some are toughing it out with a fireplace or stove others searching for motels.
Reports are I-40 and I-240 around Memphis are clear and hwy speeds can be done. I'm not leaving the house to find out.
Debbie complained for the first time about air coming in around the living room window unit. I added more foam under it then covered all with 4 layers of quilt using push pins. Nails and stapler are in the garage and will have to wait for a melt. The cats aren't happy. They like to sit on the unit and view outside.

    4 am, 29, feels like 23, SE 6 mph wind, 46 later.
It got up to 39 yesterday and very little melt here. I've heard traffic on my street but no tracks. No mail delivery since Friday. Got a package that arrived in Memphis Wednesday, on the truck for transfer to Horn Lake on Thursday, still there this morning ready for transport.
Planed to storage trash bags in the pantry until it was clear enough to get out. Dang, leaking bag. I stepped onto the front porch, 2" of the mix was there. 6" drop to the walk, the mix was level with that on the porch all the way to the car, couldn't see under it. The mix felt soft, didn't compress under my steps. I did pretty good until I got to mthe 2nd car. My can went one way and my feet the other. I sat down and made a dent in the mix. Was lucky, no pain this morning.

Hopefully, enough gets melted before the next hard freeze this weekend. I'm glad that you didn't get physically hurt in that fall.

8 am, 25, NNW 3 mph wind, 41 later with SW 9 mph wind.
Low temps are keeping the ice in place. Very few drivers will drive on the edge of the rut to break it when temps are up to make the rut wider. I poured pool salt on my lower driveway and street to give me a better path in and out when needed. The cars haven't been driven. My truck has 10 bags of sand and pea gravel in the bed to help with traction.
The pool salt came from the auction house. 2 20 lb jugs per case. $3.50 per case buying 5. It has chorine in it and can't be used for food.

About 95/98% of the ice has melted. Lot of reports this weekend from the Oakland/Water Valley area about power being restored. Dang, 2 weeks. One person spent 3 days in Oxford hospital to be checked out, have a shower and a warm place to sleep.
