Buds on and off Crappie.com are texting me pictures. As Bon Temps' posted our Crappie have started spawning, this will last for a couple of months if not longer which is good. The Pearl River is up, Blacks can spawn without much molestation except by the West Pearl River Rats. Those guys Carolina Rig big shiners on the bottom in the mouths of a Slew where the water from the swollen river is opening up from a narrow chute to a wider, spread out ditch mouth. The big Crappie pass along the opening into the flow to spawn in the flooded timber eating select Finfish like a impaled Shiner on the way in. You have to wade thru the Catfish when fishing that way but they like the Catfish too.
Me, I'm eating a good Breakfast like this plate, fried Eggs, homemade Ham Fried Rice, Fried Smoke Pork Link Sausage, and Broiled buttered Einkorn Baguette slices. Really hangs with your jig pole - Crappie lifting arm thru the fishing trip. Sad side of this is no salt this time of year for me. Terrible times.
Heading out of the Campground to the river here.
I took this picture to show how low the water is out. You can see the waterline on the Bulkhead. My Tin boat almost washed sand up in the channel crossing into the main river.
Out in what use to be 8-9ft of water in the main Jourdan river. Exploring yesterday checking all the deep holes that used to exist I found nothing but sand. The river has eroded enough sand into it to fill most of the holes and channel in widening in the process. Some spots that used to be deep I could run thru on a plane but had to use the Shallow Water setting on the engine on the way up sidescanning for new logs. The water was 50 degrees here but dropped as I worked further upriver.
Heading back from exploring I stuck steel to better Crappie along with the ever present Shorts. Great way to spend a part of the day. BGBS in natural colors was what I was dropping, like Bon Temps said any color worked. Busy time at home so can't spend the whole day.

Rojo thanked you for this post
If I ate a breakfast like that I would have to take a nap. Nice to hear that they are biting somewhere. All my crappie lakes are covered with ice and with the cold front blowing through ice is only going to get thicker.
Rojo thanked you for this post
They're still biting. I went hunting a few Potato Chip White Crappie late this morning. I would have gotten out earlier but went and did Winter Storm shopping first. Prepare Before Play Right? Anyway our Slab Whites hang out off the edges of structure and are a bit more aggressive than the ones still on the Dinner Menu of larger fish. Not so easy to catch as your presentation mechanics need to be polished for consistent Hook-ups.
I kept a few, we are going to do a crust on the fish in the oven on wire with a Alfredo of some kind over pasta. You really want the Ketchn Potato Chip sized Crappie for this dish.I like to lay my plate out on a platter instead of a plate for mass consumption. Still enjoying Ketchn's way of baking Slab Crappie Fillets........They only wanted TN Shad BGBS today. Go figure.
If I die from a Deadly Sin it will be Gluttony!

I have witnessed Rojo consume groceries. I too would need a nap. He burns through this amount of groceries because he only seems to have one speed. GO!! He is nonstop all day every day.
Bon Temps!
My breakfast is a bowl of cereal about 11am. I do get up at 5 or 6 am depending on what the doggies want to do. Wifey gets up at 4 am every day. Weird schedule, eh. But having seen that breakfast Rojo eats, and the speed of his projects, I may need to change things up. Eh, maybe I'm good. But it sure does look delicious. Fish on!
At least you don’t have that car on the recalled Harbor Freight jack stands. I was surprised that you don’t have a 2-post lift. Because I don’t have a separate shop to install a 2-post lift, I use a QuickJack to lift my vehicles off the ground for maintenance.
If I'm not at work or taking kids to their activities, you might find me on "The Rez" fishing. If not there, I could be in the garage working on my boat.Nugget LIKED above post
I wouldn't have a 2 Post lift but I do have a 4-Post Lift I traded P-nut a CDC member for it. I have a Challenger 44018 Surface Mount lift. Pick up a Golf Car to a 6 wheel Dump Truck. I still have to install it in my shop. It has to go in the corner where all the Outboards are stored. The Brake is in the way too, it's a big Lift.
