    Default My town pond

Thought some might like to see where I do my winter fishing . And how I plan my trip .
I added the directions to show how the winds affect where I fish . I circled in red , the main areas I fish .
On the east and western areas are shallow flats . Actually I think the whole pond is pretty shallow, but the flats are 2-3’ at the deepest . With the east side being the shallowest .
The north shore is sunny all day . The building on the north side helps block a northern wind when fishing the northern sunny side with a north wind .
Tomorrow the weather is calling for cloudy conditions , with a 7-15 mph South wind, so I should be able to fish the dam area on the right side tomorrow. There’s a railway track and woods that should help block the wind . There’s about three main areas on the dam that have proven productive in the past .
Float fishing the flats can be productive if we have a few sunny days in a row , that warms the shallows up .
The pond must have some kind of underground spring that keeps the pond from drying up during droughts . It gets a lot of runoff during rains .
In recent years the town has chosen to lower the ponds full pool by at least a foot . This has hurt some of my old favorite areas.
The building on the north side used to be a seafood restaurant that specialized in catfish plates . I’ve heard they used to keep catfish in the pond . But in the last 20 years I’ve only caught one catfish .
It is a very fertile pond .
    Hope you find this interesting.
