Default Kayak Trip Report, Limestone Creek off Harvest Rd

I spent a little time looking at some new areas today. I put my kayak into Limestone Creek at Harvest Rd today and fished a mile or so both up and down stream. Nothing biting (water was 39 degrees) and crystal clear but I did find some interesting water that I'll return to in the summer. I found several locations with 7-foot water and one area that dropped to 8 1/2 feet. The water was so clear I could count the rocks on the bottom in 8 feet of water, tough conditions especially when it's cold.

Had a guy a while back tell me he used to catch crappie there at the bridge in spring and summer. Another friend of mine told me they used to catch crappie in the winter off Nick Davis road. He grew up right beside the creek there. I grew up not far from there.

That was the plan, look for deep holes and slow roll jigs through them just off the bottom. I think the water was just too cold. I can catch them in 39-degree water, but if the water has fallen from mid to upper 40's down to the 30's in the last couple days it's hard with artificials. I may give the area another try the end of next week if tomorrow's rain doesn't blow out the creek.

I used to wade that stream for bass between harvest and nick davis road and would sometimes catch a crappie or two and yellow perch also in the deeper swifter areas....the area next to limestone prison is 5 ft deep with lots of deadfalls and should hold some fish.....lots of chain pickerel there too.

    Thanks riverboss!

I plan to explore a few more of these areas as I have time when the water is low.

I'm chasing the panfish, especially the large Redbreast but always catch numerous Largemouth on any trip in the warmer months. I've caught a few Smallmouth on the southern end of Limestone over the years and while always released they are fun to catch in the shallow moving water.
