    Default Diascund trip 12/20/25

Got out for a few hours yesterday afternoon. Nothing seemed right. It’s been a while since I’ve been out, and I empty my small pond boat when back at home, so I forgot to put line clippers, pliers, and a rope back in the boat. Repurposed my anchor rope as a bow line at launch, and it kept wanting to get caught up on the trailer when backing in. Got fed up with it and just rolled up my sleeves and put my arm in the water to free it. The 44 degree surface temp felt like below 0. Trolled out to the second bridge without getting a bite. Swapped out the jigs for live minnows and continued to zero for the rest of the afternoon. Water was high, so had to kneel in the boat and fold the seat down to get under the bridge. Started trolling back before dark and it felt like the temp dropped 20 degrees, but it was more of the wind picking up than anything else. Got back to the ramp and both the other boaters that were out were putting it on the trailer for the day. Neither of them did well either.

Still nice to get out on a sunny day.

I’ve been having the same kind of luck. I hope to find some fish soon. Surprised you didn’t have some luck at the bridge. Diascund is a strange place to me. I’ve only been a few times, but I’m surprised at the lack of structure. Figured guys would have dropped a lot of brush in there.

I was messaging Woodduck just a few months before his passing, and we talked about moving a fallen tree to make some deeper water structure. Not sure if he ever did that on his own, because I wasn’t sure of the downed tree’s location. We also talked about placing artificial brush piles (pvc structures in a concrete base), but neither of us went through with that plan. At least to the best of my knowledge, he didn’t. It’s still on my mind.

I tried Chesdin again today. Nothing!! Deep brush, shallow structure, two good docks, rock pike, new areas, open water……. Then found a few fish on a piece of structure in 30’. Watched one fish follow my buddy’s jig. I dropped my 1/16 on a fish. Hit him. He spooked. I went home.
