    Default Atchafalaya River Bumped Up

The Atchafalaya had a slight rise, and usually when it's rising, the fishing shuts down, but I knew a front was coming in Sunday night, so I took a chance yesterday to see if I could get in to one of my favorite spots now that the water was a little higher. Not only did I get in, but I was able to find some fish! The water was muddy in all the channels leading up to the flooded cypress swamp, but once I got in, it got better with a little more clarity. The water temperature was 52-53 degrees, and I found most of the fish suspended on submerged stumps in about 4-5' of water. Caught a bunch under a cork about 3' deep on a 1/48 oz jig head with a small black and chartreuse paddle tail grub and a 1/64 oz nickel jig head with a glow pop crappie magnet, vertically jigged. I also caught two bass....one was 3 lbs and the other 4 lbs on the cork and 1/48 jig using a 6'6 ACC Crappie Stix! All in all, I was very thankful to be out on the water, able to get in that area, and come home with some nice fish!

You're absolutely right, Bon Temps. I kept going back and forth the night before and even when I got up in the morning because I was worried that I'd take that long boat ride, only to get there and not be able to get in (or worse, get in, but then couldn't get out if the water dropped any). Finally, I said to myself that I'd never know, if I didn't go and see! Glad I went!

You had a great day, great call getting back in there. Those little baits are very effective all year round.
