CatFan: The first component inside the electronics unit is a regulator that drops the voltage to something lower than the rated minimum operating voltage for the unit. That’s 10.8V for Humminbird units. The electronics inside the unit see the exact same voltage whether you supply it with 10.8V, 12.8V or 16V. At 16V, there will be a little more power consumption due to the regulator have to make a bigger change. Good info and I tend to agree, but it also makes me wonder what all the fuss has been about providing constant voltage to the Garmin Ls units? that and why do these units screens show current volts? also I will be staying with a 12v battery. Thanks

After watching this video, I think the only change coming for me is from the wet cell batteries that came on the Pontoon I was gifted to some Lithium batteries. But that won't happen till these aren't good any more...Looking at maybe some of the 12.8v 100AH mini lithium batteries. Same power and performance as the larger ones, just a smaller package. Some even have the Bluetooth monitoring as the larger batteries.

Read the details in the warranty before you buy, not all 10-year warranties are the same.
