Default Not what I was fishin for....

Was trying to catch a panfish to use for catfish bait and this beast decided it was hungrier than the panfish were.
Hit a 1 inch gulp minnow on a #8 Aberdeen gold hook. Or it was taking a big gulp of minnows and just had the bait in the right place. Still can't believe I landed it using my little homemade 4' light rod. At least I got to scratch one more fish off the catch list. Name: 20251119_171638.jpg

What kind of fish is that? It looks like an invasive snakehead.

Hooked another big fish today on a piece of nightcrawler. After a hard run, a turn and couple more runs it cut my line. Is an odd fish, if it was another bowfin. Didn't even move the float but pulled on it to give it some action and the fish was already on it. Gotta figure out how to use braid or steel leader and not compromise catching sunfish. Or target the toothies and maybe they'll leave my little gear alone.

Mine were kinda like that but they bit like a lazy catfish. Didn't even pull the float under. Imagine the surprise when you set the hook thinking it was a little fish and then the freight train takes off.
