Default Fishing Trip Years in the Making

I have been blessed to be part of one family for fifty years. Though I am sixty five my bride and I dated for four years before being wed.
But I came from a fishing family and married into another fishing family with both families having very different fishing styles. Me and my brother in law have been fishing together since our teenage years. One we had kids of our own we drifted away and made more fisherman. But as our kids have gotten grown and kids of their own, our fishing passion has brought us together once again over the last couple of years. We use to go on fishing trips together all the time and was young enough to sleep on the ground in the river swamps. Can’t do that no more, unless you want to wake up feeling like a cold snake in the winter.

We made a fishing trip to south central Alabama, around the Tuscaloosa AL. area. You can’t talk about this area without adding “Roll Tide” enough said.

We stay for a few days and I will try to attach the results.

This was our first catch just shy of ten being a two man limit. The important thing to know with these photos. They don’t do these fish justice. In each photo we only have a few fish mean five or less that is from eleven and a half inches to twelve inches. These things are good ones mainly thirteen to sixteen inches. This is consistent with all three photos attached. If y’all know how to make more accurate photos let me know. Kaboom!

    Day two kaboom kaboom!

Day three we whacked them bad boys again. Kaboom kaboom kaboom!

Now we were in separate boats and yes for the electronics haters we used them and they were key to success. Because we saw many fishermen at the ramps that had little to nothing. Our total bring home was one hundred and seven. I personally had sixty five of those. You all can do the math.
Now the meat and potatoes. We actually caught hundreds! Legal size limit in Alabama is nine inches so nine to eleven inches, well let’s just say it was their lucky few days.

But my brother in law and I fished two totally different styles. He loves a minnow and a tree top. I prefer jigs and only use minnows when that’s all they will hit. On rivers I mainly fish stumps and root wads. Rivers with the slightest of current tends to eat jig, hooks, sinkers and I guess I’m just too cheap to feed a brushy tree top unless I absolutely have too. I also prefer to use a seven foot rod or ten foot rod and pitch a bit to them rather than using a twelve to fourteen foot rod dropping straight down to them. The preferred jig color one of my all time favorite but tend not to use much black and chartreuse.
Now where I may get a lot of disagreement is this. Once I find a color they like I will stick with it. A lot of time almost all day. But the key to my success is when they tend to turn off to it I simply change profiles. So with that said, I fished minnow style looking jigs, tube jigs, and I think you guys get the picture. Many other profile styles.

So I wrote a book hoping I might could help people catch more fish. I also gave two different fishing styles both successful. Keep in mind we mainly fish rivers. We are always dealing with some current.
Good luck fellows hope y’all are blessed with good trips as we are. I rarely post weekly catch’s. But wanted to this one to say, if you got an old fishing partner go find him and go catch some fish.

I’m enjoying reading this as much as you guys had fishing. A very good trip for you both. I have a trip planned with my brother as soon as I find a concentration of fish. Some of the best fish I’ve seen in a minute in those pics. Congrats to you both.
