Good morning all,
Just read Bon Temps' post about his trip yesterday, and after I read Rojo's comment about how badly rain is needed (we really need rain in Southern Louisiana, too), it got me thinking.....We're expecting a front with heavy rain Saturday through Sunday mid-day. During football season, Sunday morning is the only time during the week where I have a few hours to get on the water; however, with the anticipated heavy rain, I was thinking of completing all of my work in the morning, and possibly heading out for a little while Sunday afternoon. Anyone ever have any success catching sacalait after a heavy rain?
I have and have not , heavy rainfall can cause the fish to alter whatever their original pattern might have been quite drastically.
In these parts it seems the high levels of debris associated with the runoff and the increased turbidity often push the filter feeder baitfish to the surface.
This then pushes the predators up tighter to the surface as well .
Sometimes we use a float set only about 3 foot deep and run all around the lake with that set up , even out in 20 plus feet of water
I have seen this though on multiple occasions, ORANGE can be quite deadly in muddy water
lots say black and chart and offer a multitude of other color options to be more visible and sometimes those work well too
luck to ya bro![]()
