Not calling foul here (you do you, I'll do me), but just curious.
When I'm cleaning them, sometimes they come off on their own, if not I remove them.

Sir CrappiePappy if the strips are well attached I leave them on (top & bottom) as I like the crunchy strip it turns into. If it's half off, not clean looking, I remove. We were very poor growing up, we didn't have a lot to eat, I think that is why I find it very difficult to waste food of any kind and eat like I do now.

I’ve always called those little strips zippers I rub rub wash the filets under lukewarm water before letting drip dry and bagging. They usually get loose and get tossed during that

Looks nice! Between my schedule and the wind, maybe I can sneak a short trip in this weekend. I just got back from The Ozarks giving a birthday and trout fishing.
If I'm not at work or taking kids to their activities, you might find me on "The Rez" fishing. If not there, I could be in the garage working on my boat.

I keep my fillets ice cold throughout processing. These fillets were very thick so the zippers are thick too. Few loosened but the ones that do get removed. I don't leave them hanging 1/2 off. Funny thing if frying Crappie and one comes off in the basket it never sees the light of day either I crunch it down or my dog does. Between the two of us I can't say who likes fried Crappie better.

Nice catch brother! As for them looking bigger in person, well that’s always the case with pictures. But to keep it real click on the picture and expand it, that will do it every time.
I had my BL to question a photo sent from my boat on the size fish I was catching versed what he thought they were. Basically accused me of lying. So when I got home to clean them I measured and sent him my limit of fish that day. After sending him 30 individual pictures of each measured fish, well I have never been questioned again.
Nothing like a fresh mess of them elusive white fish.
