    Default do you ?

plan to get lucky ? or just wait to get lucky .....
a person once said to me "man you are just lucky" ....
my response was this " I spend a lot of time planning to get lucky "
being lucky is no accident in most of the scenarios I explore
more often than not my luck is directly attributed to my planning to get lucky
often times my wife says ....WOW , more condos for the fish , why ....
I always respond with the same thing ....
you cannot put enough of them out there , that's a fact
besides natural deterioration and then them that destroy them with anchors and braid and etc.
they are not down there forever if you use natural materials ....
this one went down 48 hours before I went back to put a jig down in it .....
and low and behold , I got lucky

I’m planning to start not that I’m about done with my degree. What do you use if you don’t have any brush or trees on your property?

You could do some collecting as you travel around town , many houses have piles of brush and limbs in front of them sometimes , and for sure if one is a pile of bamboo , you need to grab a handful .
this bamboo was from my next door neighbor's front yard . Willows are great as well for immediate results , most of what I put down is set out to hit it really quickly , before all them, that hit it hard with them there electronics do. Many times great piles you spend time building, have boats with LS sitting right on top of them on your next lake visit .
it doesn't really bother me , and to be sure a side scan unit can find them most of the time , the one good thing I have noticed on bamboo is this .....
it is REALLY hard to see on a graph of any kind if it is not green and carrying leaves ......just saying
dry the booo in your backyard a month or so and let it get leafless , less little fish will be on it and it will be much more difficult to locate with a graph
there are still a few tricks out there to slow down them that ain't making them condos

Look for old PEX pipe deals or free pvc. Lots of folks round here want the pesky bamboo cut.

I'm late into reading some posts but this one is special to me. I teach & preach Crappie fishing is not a single thing done right, it is like stacking dominos to all fall in a series. You've got to plan. You've got to stick to your plan. You've got to prepare to execute your plan to the best of your abilities. You've got to keep up with what works, when it stop working then change something but if you're catching then manage your time so you maximize the time your bait is in the water and not on the deck of the boat. Well said Ketchn.

It's a thinking mans sport like ROJO taught me. Nothing has been as challenging or rewarding as Crappie fishing to me. The different seasons call for different tactics and then throw in the tides, the moon phase, the cloud cover, the water clarity, the water temp, the available bait and the abundance of that bait. ect
After all that they still have to want to eat at the moment you drop down your jig. Only LUCK part I see in this puzzle.
However, that magical THUMP when a slab inhales your jig keeps me coming back for more.

    Bon Temps!!
