    Default DIY Livescope Turret

I built me a DIY powered live scope to it. I like to fish with two hands and it became a chore to have to turn my live scope to keep it focused on the fish. I built this unit off of an old Minnkota power drive trolling motor and I fabricated a plate that fixed to my Ultrex to hold it. Demanding bracket was made out of quarter inch mild steel and cut out with plasma cutter and then cleaned up and painted. All hardware are used is stainless and nylon like nuts are used to fix the power drive to the mounting bracket. I use the original Minnkota Ultrex hex head screws to fix the plate to the bottom of my Ultrex mount. I purchased a new shaft and placed transducer on the bottom of the shaft and then ran Wiring to my relay box that I placed under my foot pedal for my trolling motor. All the connections are waterproof and then to activate the left and right function I wired a left and right foot treadle to operate the turret in the desire direction. If you look in the upper left-hand corner next to my Minn Kota foot control. There is a small button, that is a rheostat that allows me to adjust the speed of how fast the Tourette turns. I put the whole thing together for about $225. As far as the wiring is concerned, I purchased a DC relay switching board off of Amazon for about $17 That allows me to run 12VDC to the left and right foot treadle and the pedal connects the ground which turns the powerdrive trolling motor left or right. The motor will turn 360 degrees so I had to install limit switches into my box as well and I have about 270 degrees of rotation. I used 14/2 gauge wire for the foot treadle and the motor control box.

Coming from you Rojo, that is high praise. Especially with all your fabrication skills. I just had an idea, planned it out, formed a prototype in my mind and then executed with a list of easily obtainable materials while trying to minimize cost. I’ll be very interested to see how robust it is as the season goes on, and I will document any failures and remedy of the failure points as they come along. I will have some more pictures added this weekend at better angles so people can see close-ups of how I built this turret.

Here are some more photos of the unit. Runs on 12VDC. I am trying to upload a video on YouTube so you can see it in action.Name: IMG_2713.jpg

One of the coolest DIYs I've seen on here. I actually have an old Motorguide wireless which works but has some issues and would be a good candidate for this. Too bad I dont have Livescope lol! Someday maybe.

Please post video of it in action if you can.

Here is the link to YouTube so you can see the turret in action. I apologize for my poor video skills. I was trying to do it all one handed with an iPhone.
