Default 4 Spots in less than 4 hours.

I had the morning and part of the afternoon before the thunderstorms were due .
I thought I’d start close by at the closest reservoir and move depending on the bite .
All of the places I fish locally have limited areas that I can bank fish .
The first spot was a ramp and the huge dock area .
I usually fish the area between the dock and the bank . I’ve never had much luck fishing outward toward deeper water .
I’m going to post a picture of one of the areas that usually yields a few micros if I can thread my cast parallel to the dock .
When I first got to the area I fish the usually productive ramp without any success. For the heck of it I back out on the dock and made a cast to where an arm of the dock ran off making a 90 degree corner. I twitched my jig once and caught one of the nicest gills I’ve caught here recently. That spot gave up four nice gills . I was using an old black blank 5’ St Croix Triumph paired with a Daiwa 1000 Exceler and J braid . The rod was made in China before St Croix built their place in Mexico.
I’m going to post pictures of the four nice ones . I caught twelve total before moving on to the Mill creek about twenty minutes away .
I’m going to make separate pages for each spot visited today . I hope this is ok .

The next spot I fished was the mill creek .
The water was about perfect for fishing and I could tell it’d been heavily fished . Three times I got hung up on heavy fishing line where someone got hung up and I believe cut their line and left it in the creek. The bite was tough but I managed to catch some small redbreast and several spotted sunfish . The spotted sunfish don’t get very big . I actually caught what I believe to be a spotted sunfish/redbreast hybrid . My first .
Most of the fishing was done using a 5’ Daiwa Presso UL rod paired with a Shimano Soare bb500spg and Daiwa J braid . And micro jigs .

The next spot I fished was above the dam at the mill creek . There’s only a couple of places to fish , one was the gravel ramp folks put their kayaks in at .
I thought I’d give a try and caught three fish for my effort using a 4’10” Major Craft Finetail glass rod paired with a Daiwa Fuego 1000 , and Daiwa J braid .
I’m including this spot because I usually don’t catch much up in the lake area . And these were bigger than what I caught in the creek .

I finished up where I’d fished yesterday, lake McIntosh. I fished the areas that were productive yesterday, but didn’t catch anything. I decided to try shooting under the dock area that runs down the boat ramp .
My first attempt caught a fish . With the lake down only about a half a foot , it was tough getting my jig under the dock . But when i did , I almost always caught a fish , including a nice little UL bass that I had on a short line , that was aerial most of the time I had it on .
I ended up catching the one bass and eight gills , of which several were scrappy shellcrackers.
A fun way to finish up the day using a 5’ St Croix Avid rod paired with a Daiwa Exceler 1000 , Daiwa J braid .
Fishing around so many hang ups and docks today , the braid with 4# P-line Floroclear leader saved me some jigs and fish .

Hi, Gillchaser! Those are some nice gills at the beginning pic, and of course the redears. I'm not one to complain fishes i've caught this year are smaller than normal especially I missed the spawning beds all together this past Spring being busy and all, but I've beginning to suspect the bigger ones are in deeper water, however hard they are to come by. Thanks for showing! Tight line!

Nice scenery and multi species day of fishing. That deeper water by first dock sure looks fishy to me. Not a fan of braid, particularly all the braid still in the lake from people breaking off. Lost a big bass a couple weeks ago when fish got tangled in some braid someone must have cut off. Would have been my PB for that lake that I have been fishing over 60 years.

    Thanks guys !
I’m about to head out to meet up with my fishing buddy at the big reservoir to fish near the boat ramps .

Two local places I wanted to fish yesterday but passed on was the creek below Lake McIntosh; it had a truck parked at the top of the hill leading down to it and there’s not a lot of places to fish down there. And if someone is there I don’t want to intrude on anyone that gets there first .
The other was the headwaters of lake McIntosh. I ran out of time and the walk in and out takes a good bit of time and steep .
Will post a report this evening about our trip today.
