No experience other than fishing a pond with muck and algae growing up. Good luck on your pond. Sounds like you’re going right direction.
I plan on getting my pond into shape this fall. I have a layer of algae covering almost the entire surface. Also from throwing a cast net there is a lot of muck on the bottom. The pond has an island with trees and under brush that I'm clearing out so fewer leaves get into the water. I'm also putting in a DIY aeration system to get some circulation. Does anyone have successful experience tips restoring their pond? My pond is a little under an acre maybe 10 feet deep max.

We have a small pond lots of muck and about 11 ft at the deepest. I bought a fountain with light kit from the link below, run it till it freezes 24 hours a day and been doing so for maybe 3 years. Looks good, little to no maintenance. No more green stuff or moss hardly ever, maybe early spring just a little. I would say it's helped the muck some but it took 40 years to get that way so I doubt it will ever be gone. Plus lots of tress around it but that way when we moved in.
The bid to drain it and dig it out was Ridiculous! I have also added grass carp twice in the 25 years I've lived here but only 10 or so each time.
They say only about will survive. The original ones look like mini submarines but as they age and grow they eat less. The pond does bluegill, catfish, crappie and bass.

In Louisiana the Wild Life & Fisheries has a great booklet and a few agents who specialize in pond up keep and stocking.
If your state doesn’t have this support I am sure you can go on line and down load literature from the MS and LA sites.
Bon Temps!!
Thanks for all the responses. For now I'm gonna use an aerator and diffuser run with a 200 foot extension cord to see how it goes....then might upgrade to a solar set up. I'm really not wanting to spend a bunch of money I've seen some of these aeration setups that are thousands of dollars that's just nuts. I'll prob try some Muck Away pellets and Tidy Bowl for dye. I have no idea how many fish are in there....so far a cast net has only revealed tiny bluegill. On hot days there are tight schools of little fish creating little whirl pools all day long I have no idea what they are. There was a decent amount of catfish at one one point. An owner of a lake down the road from me said I can have all the 12 inch and under bass I want so I'm gonna transport about 100 when the water cools off.
