Trout Magnet Bulldog color close to bottom.
HaHa: 0
Greetings,
What are your preferred lures for shellcrackers?
I typically fish with plastics such as a troutmagnet, bobby garland itty bit swimmers, and some zman small plastics.
What have you found effective and what color combos?
Thanks

Curly tail grub! Popsicle
red/black hand tie tipped with berkley power wiggler
Too blessed to be stressed!
Any color that resembles the color of a snail ... brown, black, black/brown combo.
When I fished specifically for them I used a jig with a black head and threaded on the dark brown head section of a nightcrawler (fishing from a boat). I also used pieces of nightcrawler on a regular hook under a float, when fishing from the bank, so that I could cast beyond the moss/weeds around the bank ... so that I could keep the bait in the sweet spot & not have to be removing the moss from my jig on every retrieve.

I tie these and they’re smaller than a 1/32. Hit before they make it to the bottom a good bit. Super slow crawl on the bottom after it gets there and sits a minute. Does well in olive, brown and black. They’re on a #8 sickle hook.

CHARLIE BREWER ONE INCH BLACK JIG ON A 1/32 BLACK OR RED HEAD .
I like those too Eagle but I have to keep extras with me. Their tail has a lot of action and gets pulled off a good bit. That said, I won’t talk of my box filled with mostly brewer one inch in almost every color. Bigger pans are hard on baits so I find the color with a plastic and switch to a hand tie for durability.

I use tiny hand ties for redear 99% of the time, very rarely soft plastics. 1" and smaller is key in colors black, brown and olive are good choices but if I could only use one color it would be a gadwall duck feather jig in 1/32 or 1/48 with a #8 or 10 hook tipped with a piece of Berkley power wiggler or waxworm.![]()
Nice work on the little jigs Jim. Hand ties are way tougher.
