I got out early to beat the heat and was fishing before 6am. Third cast and first fish of the day was a kitty fish on the duck jig tipped with a waxworm. Found some bedding gills and the gills were actually following their hooked brothers and trying to take the jig away, briefly had a double on but small hook couldn't keep them both pinned. Finally caught a smaller gill and bass showed up. Ended up hooking four bass and landed two on the smaller gills. Fishing this lake since early 90's and a couple years ago started catching Long ears. Don't know how they got in there but they sure are pretty fish.![]()

Nice catches!
I read an research article somewhere and they were saying that wading birds such as herons etc., pick up the eggs on their feet when stepping in the fish spawn beds and also they may eat some fertilized eggs or fry and then regurgitate them and transfer them to other bodies of water.
My granddad built a pond for the cows to drink from when I was a kid and no fish were ever added to that pond, no creek coming into it or anyway for fish to transit into it. But after a couple years we saw fish surfacing and splashing in the shallows and started catching bluegills out of there. Later, after a few more years we caught some crappie and longeared sunfish also.
James 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. 23 For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass: (KJV)
Nice! Sounds enjoyable

My favorite time. I like to arrive at the ramp before there’s any light in the sky and be close to where I like to fish as the daylight comes. Watching the world come to life. Those are some good fish. I got some longears today that were all lit up and made me take notice. They’re new to me anyway. Hope you get out again soon.
Creativity is just intelligence fooling around
Sunny, muggy and 80 degrees already at 6am so fished in the shade until it left me. Interesting part was the gills were noticeably warm to the touch in my hand. Both bass ate gills about 5" long and seen both eat my hand tossed gills as they cruised by. I horse the smaller fish in fast on top and this action attracts the bass. Bring them in hand and open bail and soft toss it towards the bass. Gills love waxworm tipped jigs. Without them my catch rate goes down, with them I catch quite a few. Back to the truck at 10:05 am.
Nice catches….
