Default Great final day of turkey season

Finally was able to have the right circumstances where I felt comfortable in walking a good distance across a flat field to set up where I have seen a lot of turkeys. Big crowd has been coming out from one spot every day I was there. a LONNNGGG way across a huge field probably 300 yards. there wasn't any gobbling or calling going on but only hope was the Mad Tom Decoy I have had a couple years where you show it moving and hope it ticks them off enough to come challenge it.

Gobbled a few times before daylight and then after it lightened looked up and there was 2 coyotes coming fast to me at 20 yards. I raised up, should have shot them but didn't. Then looked behind me and another was about 20 feet away. they all took off fast.

about a dozen deer were hanging around the field but I was in good camo and setup so they didn't see me.

After the time they should have hit the ground but didn't looked behind me and there were 3 toms in the field. I raised up the mad Tom to hide behind and moved it around. They kept eye on me from 250 yards then started feeding towards me. soon as I kept moving it around and showing the fan suddenly they took off running right at me! turns out they were jakes, young toms and often they will chase and attack a big tom like this. they didn't get the chance as I waited behind the decoy till they were 25 yards and Kaboom I let one have it. He flopped around for a bit then started running away but I was waiting and finished him off.

Been since 2019 since I killed one and my heart issues started so I was Uber excited to finally get to do my favorite thing.

went back to house and cleaned it. then headed to lake as I had done so well night before. not as good but still caught 7 good ones and one bigun. called my buddy as I didn't feel like cleaning and he is always hongry for some crappie.

GREAT weekend and finally gotrdone. End of my spring trips. will be a while before I get back up.

I guess you had to shoot them before they got you! The turkeys, not the coyotes. Great post.....

first it was the coyotes coming for my decoy, then it was the Toms who were intent on attacking him. Had to shoot them to stop em. LOL.
