Many years ago one of the famous bass whackers was doing just that to get his boat under a bridge to a spot no one else could get to.

I have thought of trying this in the wind. I know just having an extra fisherman in the boat seems to help.

Would not be good to flood your boat as the floatation foam will soak up water . It could ruin a boat. I think using a bladder or large ice chest would be fine to hold water in .

Nobody is filling/flooding their boats with water. They use ballast bags that hold water/weight.

I watched Capps n Coleman do this on a windy Pickwick tournament in 2007. They absolutely had that big Ranger sloshing full of water. It was a cold day, and they had rubber knee boots on. We were fishing the amateur division of same tournament, when they came into our area at end of day, we backed off a couple hundred feet and watched them. Pulled several two pound plus off a brushpile, turn around and just toss them in middle of the boat. One big livewell. Took me awhile to comprehend what I was seeing.
I did hear that their boat stank, moldy. But they won that day and a lot more.

Yeah, there are safer ways of adding weight these days. On the other hand, my dad’s boat already sits so low to the water that he can’t fish with moderate wind that begins to whitecap because water comes over his bow.

Feelay used to do this on Sardis when spider rigging in his big Ranger Bay Boat composite hull with great results. Eliminated alot of the pole bounce. Me personally I'm not that angry at them. If it's to windy for drift socks or chains I will stay at the house! Of course guides and tournament fisherman don't get the luxury of picking fair weather day's.

Tournament guys do lots of things skillet guys do not . Dad always said are you going to jump off a bridge because someone else did ? However that may be why my uncle Jay always took a couple cases with him . Going down the road he always had several cases of ole mil in the trunk . lol
