Chasing Crappie Sunday
I plan to chase Crappie tomorrow, any ideas on backwater areas with clear water? I'm afraid everything will be flooded and muddy!

I gave Buckeye Pond in Wheeler National Wildlife Refuge a try this morning. This the area just North of the Rockhouse dewatering area. This area was also blown out with only inches of visability of only inches and 60 degrees. I did catch a dozen Crappie and a couple Bass but all the Crappie were short except two large fish. The dewatering area is high with water about three feet higher than normal summer draw down. Still glad I went and visited an area I hadn't been to in a while.

I can remember wearing them out back there as a kid. But haven’t fished it in a long time besides for shell cracker about 5-6 years ago.

The water was muddy and too high. The fields had two feet of water in them so the fish could have been anywhere. I usually make one or two trips in there a year in late spring once the water gets inside the canal edges and always do well.
I'll go after them again in a week or two after the water drops a couple feet. All this rain forecast the next week or ten days won't help.
